Have you ever given much thought to the number 25? In addition to being a squared number (5 x 5), the number 25 is the sum of the five consecutive single-digit odd numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9.

It is also the number associated with silver anniversaries and has been used in song … thus setting the table for tonight’s moment in time …

When singer/songwriters get together, we get some dynamite results.

Such was the case in 1969 when legendary Motown record producer Johnny Bristol and founder of the Moonglows, Harvey Fuqua, teamed up with Edwin Starr to write the title song of Starr’s second album.

The song was a huge hit, making it to the #6 position on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. It also peaked at #36 on the UK Singles Chart.

We have spun a lot of gold here on Treasure Island Oldies over the past 25 years. For Edwin Starr, it only took him “25 Miles,” this week’s Tom Locke moment in time.
